My Favorite Project: Neue Legends
What?
GMK Neue legends are a completely new set of double shot legends with 3 different sets of modifier legends (icon, icon+text and text), available to anyone in the community to use.
Why?
Neue legends are a modern version of Cherry legends. The latter is an absolute classic with a rich history, loved by the community. Neue’s goal is to offer designers a choice of something more modern in case that’s something that would work better with the set they designed.
Details
The main goals with Neue was to have more consistency and attention to typography across legends.
The typeface used for all text legends is Proxima Nova Soft. It’s gentle, not too narrow, has a lovely x-height (the height of the lowercase letters), and all in all is just extremely well balanced. Its special characters needed very little tweaking to work (obvious exceptions include the tilde, asterisk, and some others).
All icons are drawn from scratch, and follow the same stroke weight and style as the mod legends (only the alphas are slightly thicker, by design). Consistency was the main objective. You’ll notice that some icons are larger than Cherry icons, other smaller; the result is a set of icons that has similar visual weight across the board.
The most common icons still use the same general shape as Cherry legends. For the others, I took things into a more modern direction where it made sense.
